Just finished ordering a #36 24" 5/16 Door Tool with adjustable handle, from PDR Finesse Tools. I included under the comments section that this tool was recommended by my trainer KDP ; Really looking forward to getting my hands on it, as I am a little under tooled in the door ding area. I'll give you guys a review after it arrives. I already have a dent lined up to try it on. Bob

Tool just arrived - Very Impressed with the quality/feel of this one - looks well machined - Will post photos of the dent I fix it with later. Tool was $150 and priority usps ship was only $6.95

Well thanks to my lack of camera skills there will be no repair photos, but I really put this tool to the test and it performed beautifully, The adjustable handle is very well made and this thing can really take on a lot of torque--Very strong, not a hint of failure to drive - I had a very tight low that I really had to crank on and this tool took all the abuse I could throw at it. I will be buying more from PDR Finesse.

Bob I see that Finesse came out with a new door tool that is different than what you bought above. The new one has a bend in the foot. Have you or anyone else used the new one and how does it compare to the old one.

I saw that one - comes in 24" and 16" versions...a left and a right. Looks like it would work real slick. I'll probably get the 24" set next time I get a little extra money to burn. I think Kirk (hockeynut) may own the new version maybe he'll chime in.

The only reason I'm leaning more to the old style is because you don't need you by a right an a left and the old one has a less aggressive, sharp tip. Know me I would push that right through the door panel. Lol
Kirk, What say you ? :-)

Those new Finesse door tools are specifically designed to pick out orange peel at the very end of the dent - very aggressive and can crack paint or leave a micro high in the blink of an eye....probably best to wait until you are more skilled. I regularly tape the ends of my tools - saves the "E" coat and sometimes keeps your tip from slipping. Also the padding helps avoid micro highs.
Door dings will be your bread and butter when you are starting out, so your goal should be to start practicing on a salvage yard door mounted on a vertical stand at the same height as an actual door as soon as you can.

What types of tape are you using and how much? I have been using 3m electrical tape but I have seen some PDR Tool companies selling other 3m tool tape, didn't know how much better it was or if it was worth it.
I do have a door off a new fusion but I haven worked on it yet because I don't have the right tool. I was originally thinking of just working on it by laying it flat but I like your advice of mounting it upright and at ride height. Any thoughts on how to mount a door for practice. Do I just make something out of 2x4's?
The door is completely striped, no window or weather stripping. I was planing on adding some blocks of wood to simulate a more realistic access point.

I just use electrical tape also because it is easy to remove. I built my door rack out of 2X4's and had it screwed to the wall in my garage. I tore it down long ago. You need a door with manual windows (that you can roll up and down) that has glass in it- also a window wedge and a stainless door glass protector. You can make your wedge out of wood. You need glass in the door because that is what you will be prying off of in most instances. Working a flat hood and a vertical door are two different animals.
