One of the last things that hail techs seem to learn is the art of blending.
In my video "Knockdowns and Crowns" I go into the importance of having an array of knockdowns for pdr.
A lot of hail techs try to master the elusive "blending hammer".

I use a couple of things, I have 2 POLISHED metal knockdowns one about 1.5 mm diam the other about 5 mm diam both are slightly domed. The other thing I use is a polished jewelers chasing hammer, ( be warned it takes MUCH practice to become accurate using a hammer freehand) Oh and DO NOT hit hard light is best and eventually eyebrows do move!!!

I'm not convinced, yet, that using a blending hammer is more beneficial than using "optimized" knockdowns, "The Proper" knockdowns are just as effective as a blending hammer (with the proper training and process) If you doi decide to go the "blending hammer" way, you will have another learning curve (hurdle) to get past. I say that all that is not "mandatory" to be a successfull doording tech OR HAIL TECH! Your "rails" can be "jam up" without the additional learning curve. JMO

Too true. If I am doing hail I use my knockdowns, having said that working with some Italian and English techs they both freehand with a blending hammer and get amazing results very quickly. They even freehand crowns. But it's not the be all and end all. The finished result Is what is important how you get there is not that important JMO

O.K. Today I'm making a small tool order and one of the things is going to be a jeweler's hammer. I'm gonna give this a whirl here in Louisville on the hail work me and Joe (jdub) are doiing and I'll get back to you!

Never got the jewlers hammer.
I use the other end of my aluminum dentcraft hammer to move large areas of metal and a kd for detail work.
Using a blending hammer to move large areas of a rail is RETARDED! ;D JMO
